USA: American govt spends $100 million for Ebola response

The U.S. government on Tuesday said it has earmarked over 100 million dollars in response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announcement last week of plans to make available up to 75 million dollars in additional funding.

Airtel donates phones,sim cards to Ebola Centre

Airtel Nigeria has donated 100 mobile handsets, complimentary airtime for each line and a Closed User Group, CUG, facility to improve overall communication and efficiency of the response.

Speaking shortly after receiving the donations from the Airtel Team, the Technical Advisor to the  Minister of State for Health as well as Incident Manager, Ebola Emergency Operations Centre, Lagos, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said Airtel responded swiftly and showed enthusiasm to support the Ebola centre.

►Academic and social activities at Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, were yesterday paralysed following a report that one of the students, who had been on admission at the university’s teaching hospital, manifested signs of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

►The management of the institution, however, said the student had been evacuated to Lagos, where she would undergo thorough screening to verify if she had actually contracted the dreaded disease.

False alarm over suspected Italy Ebola case

A Nigerian woman suspected of being Italy’s first Ebola case is in fact sick with malaria, regional health services said Wednesday.

The 42-year-old resident of Italy had recently returned from a trip to Nigeria, where eight people have died in the current outbreak, and was hospitalised Tuesday with Ebola-like symptoms.

Pres.Jonathan orders removal of repugnant #BringBackJonathan signs
