Minister urges Senate to pass bill against defilement of young boys

Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development, Hajia Zainab Maina, yesterday, told the National Assembly to expedite action on the passage of bill to stop impunity and cases of abuse and defilement of young males by trusted adults.

Already, the Senate President, David Mark, has urged the National Assembly Committees working on the bills on violence against persons to expedite actions on them, saying that the bills would go a long way in addressing ills in the society.

Herbalist, client in war of words over N500,000 fee

A mild drama unfolded at the Igando Police Division, weekend, after a 48-year-old herbalist, who was arrested for allegedly defrauding a 70-year-old woman of N500,000, engaged the complainant in a war of words.

Describing claims that he defrauded the 70-year-old woman as a lie, the suspect, Akin Babalola, placed his index finger on the ground, touched his tongue with same finger before lifting it to the sky, an expression, he said, was to indicate that he was saying the truth.

Troops liberate 30 communities in Yobe

Dangote remains Africa richest man

Alhaji Aliko Dangote has remained Africa’s richest man despite his losses to the devaluation of the Naira and drops in the demand for cement his largest asset.

According to Forbes margazine, Dangote was this “year’s biggest loser in dollar terms as his fortune dropped to $14.7 billion from $25 billion last year, propelled downward by a weaker Naira and shrinking demand for cement, his largest asset. He still retains the title of Africa’s richest man.

The country that has lost the most ground by far was Russia, which now has 88 billionaires down from 111, less than not just the US and China but now also Germany and India.

Don’t allow opposition intimidate you, Jonathan tells PDP candidates

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, encouraged candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming elections not to be intimidated by opposition candidates and parties who had nothing to show. 

As evidence of the superior achievements of the PDP governors, the President said it was only in PDP controlled states that he had been able to see quality Government Houses and Presidential Lodges.
