Why I challenged past presidential elections – Buhari

President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday explained why he went to court to challenge the results of the presidential elections, he lost in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Buhari, who stated this when Delta State All Progressives Congress members visited him in Abuja, said that he took the decision because he believed Nigeria must be free.

Buhari, who contested and lost 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential elections, said, “Going through the court is not easy, both materially and physically, and I maintained that consistency because my view about my country is that Nigeria should be truly free.”

Boat crammed with migrants found adrift in Thai waters

A boat crammed with scores of Rohingya migrants, including many young children, was found drifting in Thai waters Thursday, with passengers telling AFP that several fellow boatpeople had died over the past few days. 
Dozens of visibly weak-looking people were on the deck of the stricken vessel, which was found adrift several kilometres (miles) off the southern Thai island of Koh Lipe, in the Andaman Sea, according to AFP correspondents at the scene.

Burundi army divided after coup attempt, president out of country

Burundi's armed forces chief announced Thursday that an attempted coup against President Pierre Nkurunziza had failed, although the claim was quickly denied by opponents of the central African nation's leader.
There was also uncertainty over the whereabouts Nkurunziza, whose attempt to return home from Tanzania after the coup was announced was blocked after his opponents seized the airport.

Nigeria army repels Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri

Boko Haram fighters launched an attack on northeast Nigeria's largest city Maiduguri on Wednesday ‎but were repelled by Nigerian troops after intense clashes, residents and the army said.
Dozens of militants armed with heavy guns and rocket-propelled grenades stormed the northern outskirts of the city near Giwa military base, shooting and firing explosives indiscriminately, local witnesses told AFP.
