How the New PDP condemned imposition of candidates on the party

They condemned imposition of candidates on the party, describing it as “inimical to the progress of the party. That this has bred indiscipline among members and low morale among the disciplined members.”

The concerned PDP stakeholders also resolved that the status of the new party secretariat on Ajilosun Road in the state capital, should be disclosed by the PDP State Working Committee. A fact-finding committee of the stakeholders had in their report at the meeting hinged the party’s poor outing in the general elections in the state on alleged anti-party activities by the former Governor; and lack of virile, bold and capable SWC with capacity to lead.

Other factors, according to them, include impoverishment of party members and few political appointments. The stakeholders resolved that as way forward, the PDP should be returned to the people by way of restoring members’ rights to choose for themselves and as well sanctioning anti-party activities by any member in line with the party’s constitution.

In a swift reaction to the development, Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, dismissed the gathering, saying those in attendance were not PDP members.

Olayinka said, “I don’t know of any PDP meeting. A gathering having the House of Assembly members who were responsible for the removal of duly elected council chairmen, vice chairman and councilors should not be accorded any recognition. To me, that is not a gathering of PDP members.”

It will be recalled that has suffered serious political losses in the state. It lost the 2018 governorship election and some other key positions to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during the 2019 general elections.

Currently, the state is being ruled by the APC with Dr Kayode Fayemi as the Governor after beating Kolapo Olusola-Eleka of the PDP in the election and all the court cases that followed and lingered up to the Supreme Court.

Obasanjo is currently out of Nigeria

Also according to Daily Independent Newspaper, Obasanjo is currently out of Nigeria, quoting his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi. Akinyemi who was reacting to the reports of the alleged invasion of the former president’s Ota farm in Abeokuta by men of the DSS promised to enquire and get more information about the development.

Obasanjo has not hid his stance on national issues ever since he left government. He has been very vocal and openly criticises the government in power without fear or favour.

He was very critical of the government of the Peoples Democratic Party then led by Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. Obasanjo openly opposed Jonathan’s re-election in 2015 through his stiff criticisms.

Former President Obasanjo was also open about his stance against the re-election of President Buhari in the run up to the 2019 presidential election. He had written to Buhari not to contest. Obasanjo even openly declared support for the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Just two months ago, Obasanjo has lamented over the level of disunity in the country, stressing that the situation now is worse than what was experienced during the civil war. “When we look at this country today, even during the civil war, we were not as divided as we are today. Today, we are in danger if we don’t take partnership seriously,” he said.

The Former President had in January this year accused President Muhammadu Buhari of returning the country to the era when state institutions were used to fight perceived enemies of the government. Obasanjo had alleged then that the President was putting into practice, the lessons he allegedly learned from late General Sani Abacha.

“Today, another Abacha Era is here. The security institutions are being misused to fight all critics and opponents of Buhari and to derail our fledgeling democracy,” he claimed.

“EFCC, Police and Code of Conduct Tribunal are also being equally misused to deal with those Buhari see as enemies for criticising him or as those who may not do his bidding in manipulating election results. If democracy is derailed or aborted, anarchy and authoritarianism will automatically follow. It is clear from all indications that Buhari is putting into practice the lessons he learned from Abacha.”

No one knows how the recent issue reportedly involving Obasanjo and the current government will eventually play out as it bothers on security issues affecting the country. Only time will tell how the whole event plays out.

The DSS noted that it is necessary for Obasanjo to come to the commission office to answer questions on the weighty allegations leveled against the Government of Nigeria. The DSS has allegedly surrounded the farmland of Olusegun Obasanjo to arrest him.

Saraki, was arraigned by

The federal government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations tied to non-assets declaration against him. But the Supreme Court eventually dismissed the charges against Saraki.

While Saraki was declared innocent by the apex court, a senior judicial officer Justice Walter Onnoghen, who has lost his position as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) after the CCT found him guilty of breaching Code of Conduct for Public Officers, is still battling to prove his innocence.

Based on that, the president believes that people loyal to public officers who have been arraigned over allegations of failing to declare their assets would “fight back.”

“I am very pleased that you are here. I assure you I will quickly fill this form and dispatch it to you. At the end of 2023, I believe there are a lot of people that will like to get back at me. So please, make sure you keep it safely because there are people who believe they shouldn’t be questioned and some of them are already in trouble. I expect them to fight back and this is one of the instruments. So, I hope you will keep it. Thank you very much indeed,” the Nigerian leader said.

The provisions of the bill includes the following

Establishment of a police fund; a fine of N100,000 or six months imprisonment for anyone who assaults a police officer, obstructs or resists a police officer; fine of N20,000 or three months imprisonment for officers caught taking liquor or intoxicating substance while on duty; establishment of community police forum.

The lawmakers specifically argued that some of the provisions are inconsistent with the 1999 constitution.

The Chairman of the House of Representative Committee on Police affairs stated that while effecting changes to the Nigeria Police Act is long over due, the bill is not consistent with the provisions of the  constitution.

He stated that “Unless we amend the constitution, we can not implement the bill. The bill also proposed the reduction of the number of DIGs, are we moving forward or backward? The bill is also referring to the Police as police force which is against the constitution,”

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative,  Lasun Yusuf while inferring that the New Police Reform Bill will “further complicate things.”

“Most of the provisions of this bill are against the constitution. This bill is complicating matters. How can we talk about consultation with the governor when the commissioners of police are not answerable to the governors,” he  stated.

A legislator from Enugu State, Tobi Okechukwu disclosed that the major reform in the country’s Police Force will be the creation of State Police.

He stated that “the present structure is defective. The governors have all agreed that there is a need for state police. Judging by the crime rate, we need to consider the structure of the police. When you take an anambra man to Borno, it will take him time to adjust.”

Mohammed Monguno a member from Borno State, stated that the bill should be passed. He stated that it will make the Nigeria Police operations procedure to be at par with their counterpart all over the world. The bill was finally voted against by members when put to vote by the speaker, Yakubu Dogara

AMAECHI FINALLY OPENS UP ON BUHARI CONVERTING HIM TO ISLAM

According to report from the News Agency of Nigeria,NAN, the minister disclosed this on Wednesday during the Valedictory Service of the Federal Executive Council held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The former number one citizen in Rivers State disclosed that he was chased out of Christ the King Catholic Church in 2014 because he was supporting President Buhari, who according to some feelers is on a mission to Islamise the country.

“Mr. President, let me thank you for not converting me to Islam. I say that specifically because in 2014 when I walked into Christ the King Catholic Church, I was literally chased out of the church as a governor because I was accused of supporting a man whose agenda was to Islamise Nigeria.

“And in Rivers state they began to call me `Alhaji Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’. I thank you because they have dropped the `Alhaji’ and back to Mr Chibuike Amaechi,’’ He stated.

The former number citizen in Rivers State disclosed that some people thought President Buhari is a dictator but he proved them wrong by turning to an “extreme democrat’’.

“I was told in the course of the campaign that you were autocratic and therefore you would not be democratic.

“Most of us are not happy that you have moved from your autocratic nature to an extreme democrat that everything puts to test of the people, to the extent that the people now feel that the only way things can go on in this country is by the rule of law.

“We all know that the rule of law is the beginning and the end of this government. Talking about the financial impunity that we saw before, people were making money without having any productive capacity for that,’’ the minister disclosed.Image result for Amaechi at FEC
