The weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the award of contract in the sum of N14.07 billion for the provision of engineering infrastructure for Gidan Daya area of Kurudu district in Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
The award of the contract is a prelude to the demolition of the sprawling Nyanya Labour Camp settlement which has become a huge slum in the capital city, and relocation of its residents to the new settlement.
The Nyanya settlement is about 200 metres away from the scene of the two bomb blasts that occurred at Nyanya recently.
Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide, who addressed State House Correspondents after the FEC meeting, said the new site was expected to accommodate about 50,000 families.
According to her, it will span 152 hectares of land on which will be built 8,064 decent flats to accommodate the families currently living in Nyanya Labour Camp.
