What may have resulted in another tragedy in Kano, northwest Nigeria, was today averted after an improvised explosive device (EID) was discovered this afternoon in a mosque in the city.
Addressing a news conference on the incident on Friday, the Police Commissioner in Kano, Mr Aderenle Shinaba, said the EID was concealed in a Volkswagen car parked beside the mosque.
Mr Shinaba says although no arrest has been made, all the EIDs in the vehicle were successfully defused
This comes about a week after the attack on the Kano State School of Hygiene that killed eight people.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but similar attacks have been carried out in the past by a terrorist group Boko Haram.
