Deductions from police personnel salaries not mismanage — IGP

► The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, said, weekend, that deductions from personnel of the force’s salaries into the Police Mortgage Bank Plc were not being mismanaged.
Abba offered the explanation shortly after presenting the bank’s “Share Certificates” to some personnel of the force in Abuja.

► He said: “Nobody is tampering with the deductions; some say it was fraudulent, so many, many things. I urge every personnel to exhibit the spirit of discipline and loyalty to the force. It (mortgage bank) is a worthwhile venture.

“I urge everyone to put the insinuation behind us, that culture of drawing the force backward, the blame game, gossips and causing unnecessary division.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the bank’s Board of Directors, Mr Usman Isa, a Commissioner of Police, said as at date, the bank had an authorised capital of N5.5 billion of which N3.95 billion had been fully subscribed.

Isa said the bank, having satisfied requirements of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, was granted licence to operate as a state primary mortgage institution on Feb. 14.

It would be recalled that the police Fokas Saving Loans Ltd. (mortgage bankers), transmuted to the Nigeria Police Mortgage Bank Plc on Jan. 28.

Meanwhile, Gov. Mr Theodore Orji of Abia has said criminality in the state, especially kidnapping, had reduced drastically.

The governor stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after paying a visit to congratulate the new I-G.

Orji vowed that houses linked to kidnappings in the state would continue to be pulled down, saying the measure which was in line with the law passed by the state’s House of Assembly.

He promised to continue to support the police in the state with logistics to rid it of all forms of criminality.

The governor also urged personnel of the force to support the new I-G to enable him lead the force effectively.
