Nigeria Immigration Service repatriates 7, 000 illegal immigrants

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr David Parradang, on Wednesday said that the service repatriated no fewer than 7,000 illegal immigrants from January to date.

In an interview with journalists in Lafia, Parradang said that the service was determined to deliver its statutory mandate of controlling movement of foreigners into the country.

He said that aliens, who tried to enter Nigeria through illegal routes around the borders, were apprehended and sent back.

He said that NIS personnel would soon conduct a house-to- house registration of foreigners in the country with a view to identifying those without valid documents and those engaging in criminal activities.

“We will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to identify and fish out all criminals and unauthorised aliens,’’ Parradang said.

The immigration boss gave the assurance that NIS personnel at the borders would increase surveillance and assist port health officials to prevent carriers of the Ebola Virus Disease from entering the country.
