APC Condemn Katsina Attack On Jonathan's Convoy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned the recent attack on President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy in Katsina.

The incident occurred January 20 as the alleged political thugs chanting “Sai Buhari,” stoned the campaign convoy. The accusation were powed that the assaulters might have belonged to the APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially reacting to the happening, blasted the opposition party blaming it for the violence.

However, in a statement released January 21 in Lagos by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the opposition expressed strong discontent with the incident saying that Jonathan should be free to campaign anywhere in the country without hindrance.

The party insisted that nothing could justify the attack on the convoy of GEJ’s delegation in any party of Nigeria, Premium Times reports.

The APC once again restated commitment to the idea of averting violence before, during and after February elections. According to the opposition, truly democratic polls should be associated only with peace.

“We consider election as a celebration of democracy, not a do-or-die affair. Whether or not one agrees with the campaign message of any party, engaging in violence negates the very essence of democracy and should be condemned by all.”

It should be noted that those running for the office have recently signed a peace pact meant to prevent violence which could be linked with the next month’s elections. There are fears that despite the attempts to make the process peaceful, violence might escalate.
