petroleum Pipeline explosion rocks Idimu

Fire broke out at a petroleum pipeline at Idimu this morning in Lagos state, Southwest, Nigeria.

The explosion started at about 1.00 am on Saturday but immediate cause of the explosion is not yet to be ascertained.

The fire which resulted in heavy smoke engulfed the axis, spreading across the pipe moving towards Ejigbo where the pipe was laid.

The residents living in the area started moving their properties out with some left their houses and properties while scampering for safety.

In a swift response, fire service men from various units across the state were moving towards the area to quench the fire.

The cause of the fire was not yet known as at the time of filing this report, but the possibility of leakages and bunkering are not ruled out, according a resident.

There has been pipe leakages along the Ejigbo-Idumu axis where the pipe was laid for the past three years unabated.

The leakages have spread to house in Ejigbo, Idimu and Isheri Olofin areas.

Those areas have not water as their wells are polluted due to the leakage.
