Spokesperson for the United States government department of state, Joh Kirby has on behalf of the country sent condolence messages to families of victims of the latest Boko Haram suicide attack on the Grand Marche in the Chadian capital of N’Djamena on as well as attacks in Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria over the past two days.
Kirby, on Monday, said his country was ready to work with the Nigerian government to ensure that Boko Haram’s existence is put in oblivion.
He said: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the soldiers, government officials, and civilians killed; we hope those who were injured will recover quickly.
“The United States praises the security forces of Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria for their timely responses to these callous and cowardly attacks on innocent civilians.”
On attempts by the joint military forces of Nigerian, Niger, Chad and Cameroon to rid its regions of the Insurgents, Kirby said: “We support these efforts through a number of security and counterterrorism assistance programs, including intelligence, advisors, training, and equipment.
“We look forward to expanding this support both bilaterally with the individual countries and to the Multinational Joint Task Force, which the Lake Chad Basin countries and Benin are in the process of standing up to coordinate their counter Boko Haram campaign.”
In a related development, Boko Haram insurgents on Monday, attacked a prison in the southern Niger town of Diffa.
The militants who had the intention to free its fellow members in the prison were repelled by the country’s military. During the gun battle, three of the militants and one soldier were killed. Boko Haram also attacked the prison in February.
Also, a man who is suspected to be a Boko Haram member reportedly on suicide mission has been arrested by the Chadian military in N’djamena the Chad capital city.
