Breaking News: Boko Haram Militants Kill Soldiers

On Tuesday, October 6, Boko Haram militants attacked Chadian soldiers in a raid near Lake Chad.

As a result of the attack, 11 soldiers were killed, while 13 sustained various degrees of injuries, Vanguard reports.

According to Chadian security source, 17 Boko Haram terrorists also died in the fighting following the pre-dawn strike.

“Boko Haram members attacked our positions at 4:30 am (0330 GMT) in Kaiga Ngouboua about two kilometres (about a mile) from the Nigerian border.

“This surprise attack claimed the lives of 11 soldiers and wounded 13 (and) 17 Boko Haram fighters were killed.

“The attackers were pushed back and the army is continuing search operations in the zone,” the source said.

Chad has recruited thousands of soldiers to fight the Boko Haram sectt, whose six-year insurgency has killed at least 17,000 people and more than 2.5 million made homeless.

Earlier this year, Chadian army conducted a successful military operation on islands that the insurgents used as hideouts on Lake Chad.

Commenting on the operation, Azem Bermandoa, the army spokesperson, said:

“We killed 117 Boko Haram fighters during the two-week operation. We lost two men and several wounded. We destroyed their boats and seized various weapons during the operation.”

Meanwhile, Nigerian troops have arrested a man, Mohammed Maina, who is suspected to be involved in financing the activities of Boko Haram terrorists.
