Chris Olakpe has been appointed the new chief executive officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
He was appointed on Monday, November 2, by the Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to replace Young Arabamen.
According to Ambode, Olakpe’s appointment was in response to the consistent complaints by the public on the situation of traffic on the streets of Lagos.

1. He studied sociology and anthropology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
2. He is a graduate of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.
3. He enlisted in the police force as a cadet assistant superintendent of police in 1980.
4. He served as commissioner of police in Bayelsa and Plateau states and commissioner of police of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, Lagos.
5. He was deputy commandant of the Police Academy, Kano.
6. He was area commander in Jalingo and the police force public relations officer in Abuja.
7. Olakpe is a member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians (IABT) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (ICAP).
8. He was promoted to the rank of assistant inspector general of police in 2014.
9. He retired in 2014 after serving the force for 34 years.
