A wedding reception went bloody in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state when an operative of the Department of Security Service (DSS) stormed the venue and shot the newly wedded couple.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the incident happened on Saturday, November 7 at Kugbaru community. The couple and guests were at the reception after the church service when the DSS official burst into the venue and surprised the couples who were dancing at the time. The attacker shot at guests before facing the couples and firing at them too.
The state of the couple is uncertain as while some witnesses said they died, others said they were in a hospital recuperating.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect was apprehended as he tried to escape after the attack.
“He was almost killed before the arrival of the policemen who rescued him and took him to the station.”
Ismaila Numan, the state police public relations officer confirmed the incident. He said the couple and other guests who were wounded were responding to treatment in a hospital and that the suspect was in police custody pending investigation.
In a related development, violence reportedly erupted in Ibadan following allegations that a secondary school principal flogged his student to death.
