Reps To Investigate Compulsory UNN Laptop Charge

Reps To Investigate Compulsory UNN Laptop Charge

The House of Representatives has intervened in the compulsory seventy-five thousand Naira payment for personal computers by students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In a motion raised by Bashir Balale, on Thursday, December 3, the House mandated its committee on tertiary education to immediately commence investigation into the matter.

Balale said such payment could discourage young people from pursuing higher education.

“We all knew how we went to school. Our feeding pattern was 101, 001 or 110 and we had 2 trousers and 2 shirts. The situation has not changed. So how do we impose such amount on poor students,” he queried.

The speaker, Yakubu Dogara who ruled in favour of the motion said  “we cannot shut the door of school to open prison.”

Also, the House also resolved to check frequent change of name by Nigerians, citing security concerns.
