NSCDC nabs suspected vandals, recovers 14,000-litre fuel

►The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly vandalising the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline.

►The suspects ─ Oloyede King, Rasaq Olawale and Kolapo Obe ─ were alleged to have burst NNPC pipelines on the Lagos Island, scooping 280 (50 litres) jerry cans of petroleum products.

Briton infected with Ebola arrives to London hospital

A British nurse who contracted the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone arrived at a London hospital on Sunday, the ministry of defence said.

The patient, who is not “seriously unwell” according to the Department of Health, was evacuated from Sierra Leone to London in a military plane.

E-cigarettes should be banned for minors- US heart association

E-cigarettes should be subject to the same regulations as cigarettes and should not be sold to minors, the American Heart Association (AHA) said in new policy guidelines out Monday.

The use of e-cigarettes, which are electrical devices that heat flavored nicotine liquid into a vapor that is inhaled, much like traditional cigarettes but without the smoke, has been rising rapidly among youths in recent years, raising concerns about the potential for addiction risks and health damage.

Thousands of Nigerians flee to Cameroon after Boko Haram in Borno

►A Boko Haram attack on a border town in Borno State forced thousands of people to flee on Monday, in a fresh assault indicating the militants’ growing ability to strike at will.

►The attack on Gamboru Ngala comes after the town was almost entirely destroyed in May in a devastating assault that also left more than 300 people killed and prompted outrage at the lack of military response.

Bodies of Ebola victims cremated in Lagos

►Bodies of the four Nigerians, who died of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, have been cremated in line with World Health Organisation, WHO, requirements for disposal of such corpses. The body of the index (first) case, Patrick Sawyer was the first to be cremated on July 25, 2014.

►The decision to cremate the bodies, it was gathered, may not be unconnected with the deadly nature of the Ebola Virus which is known to be easily transmissible from human to human during handling of corpses of victims.
