Police Arrest 30 Cultists In Ogun, Reveals Names

Police in Ogun state have arrested about 30 cultists in Ijebu-Ode area in the state in a joint-effort with the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), the Anti Robbery Squad of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence and the Mobile Police Force.

Other agencies that helped in the raid include the State Intelligence Bureau led by the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence DCP Shina Olukolu.

The police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, yesterday said the arrests were made sometime last week. Daily Trust reports that a recent clash by rival cult groups in the area in which 10 people were killed resulted in the raid by the security agencies.

Adejobi called the raid a source of embarrassment to the command.

The spokeman said: “Special raids were carried out on many black spots and hideouts including Fidipote Street, Ogbogbo village, Ita Alapo, Imeweje village and some hotels in the area and that led to the arrest of the prime suspects or ring leaders who had been involved in many criminal acts including murder.”

The police command gave the names of some of the arrested cultists leaders. They are Gbenga Banjo, aka, Solution, Akeem Kareem, aka, Obalufon, Dammy, Jawando (real names yet unknown), Kazeem Akeem, aka, Obalofin,Oluwatimileyin Akintunde, aka, Majek, Olootu Lukman, aka, EBA, Neyo (not real name) and Oladele Oluniga.

The spokesman said investigations into the activities of the arrested men will be carried out adding that he was embarrassed that the state was bedeviled by cultist activities.

He urged the people of Ijebu Ode to show support to the police command as it continues the fight against cultism in the state.

In a related development, SARS working in Enugu state have uncovered 187 rounds of .9mm live ammunitions and 10 live cartridges in a bush within Nwosu terrace axis of Ogui area of the state. The operatives also arrested two student cultists who are members of different fraternities.

Also in Rivers state, the state police command arrested 36 people suspected to be cultists, after having a gun brawl with the security officials.

One of the suspects lost his life during the gun battle.
