Senate moves to ban tobacco use, production and consumption


 THE Senate has begun moves aimed at permanently banning the manufacturing, consumption and promotion of tobacco in Nigeria.

But the development generated controversies among senators, yesterday, during debate on a bill to that effect just as the Senate President, David Mark, lamented that powerful individuals who were against the ban and regulation of tobacco in the country influenced Presidency to withhold assent on a similar bill sponsored and passed by the 6th Senate.

IGP plots to stop politicians with criminal records

Suleiman Abba declared that no politician with criminal record will be allowed to contest any position in the 2015 election
Inspector general of police, Suleiman Abba declared yesterday that no politician with criminal record will be allowed to contest any position in the 2015 election noting that the force will collaborate with the Department of State Security to screen out such politicians.

Abba made the declaration just as he said only one of the over 20 Police officers still missing after Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Gwoza Camp of the Police had returned while nothing has been heard of the others.

Torn Passport - Egypt Air Admits Error, to Pay Compensation

Boko Haram: DHQ warns next Shekau to be ready for justice

►Against the backdrop of evidence that Boko Haram commander, Mohammed Bashir, who has been impersonating the late sect leader, Abubakar Shekau in videos was killed on September 17, by Nigerian soldiers, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ,  has warned that any other person or leader who emerges using the name ‘Shekau’ will receive the same treatment.

►The warning was made just as 135 members of the terrorist group have surrendered to troops in Biu, Mairiga-Buni Yadi as well as Mubi-Michika towns.
