Chad, Niger launch air, ground strikes against B'Haram as troops recapture Buni Yadi

Niger and Chad, yesterday, launched major ground and air strikes in the North-East against Boko Haram, after the militants formally pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.
The attacks, which followed a sustained build-up of troops in southern Niger, have opened up a new front in regional efforts to wipe out the Islamist group, whose six-year insurgency has spread across borders.

The Nigerian troops also, weekend, recaptured Buni Yadi town, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area and Buni Gari town both in Yobe State from the terrorists.

Bloody weekend in P-Harcourt as gunmen kill 11

It was a bloody weekend in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital as 11 persons were shot dead at different locations by unknown gunmen. Six of the victims were killed on Worlu Street in D Line close to Oroworoku community when the assailants stormed a spot near a mechanic workshop at about 7.15 pm demanding to see the owner of a vehicle parked outside.

It could not be confirmed if they saw the person they were looking for but the assailants, numbering about four, suddenly dashed to their vehicle, pulled out their rifles and started shooting indiscriminately at those they saw.

Power supply: All homes in Lagos will be lit in six months if… — Fashola

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said the solution to the problem of power sector could be achieved in six months if the Distribution Companies, DISCOs, were ready to yield some percentages of their concessions to the state government.

Fashola made this statement at the commissioning of the 1.2 kilometer Glover Road and 8.5 megawatts, Peninsula Integrated Power Project, PIPP, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The governor, while commissioning the fifth IPP, said: “Let the EKO DISCOs sign a contract with me, giving part of their concessioning to the state government. In about six to eight months, there will be power in all homes in Lagos State.

Maiduguri attacks: Death toll rises to 100

The death toll from last Saturday multiple suicide bomb blasts in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State has risen to over 100, with scores still recuperating at various hospitals for treatment.
On Saturday multiple explosions, the Police Commissioner, Clement Adado told journalists that only 54 people were killed, but sources and hospital mortuary attendance, yesterday, revealed that more than hundred people were confirmed dead, as over 50 people, including the female suicide bomber, were killed in the fish market which was the first target of the attacks.
