I inherited empty treasury, huge debts, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he inherited a country with virtually an empty treasury from   former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari, who met with State House correspondents on Monday to mark his first day in the Aso Rock office, said his administration was being weighed down by debts running into millions of dollars.

Although he did not say how much debt he met, he   promised to put in his best to salvage the country from the brink of collapse.

Buhari orders military checkpoints’ removal, B’Haram kills 13

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday ordered the removal of military checkpoints set up in the wake of Boko Haram activities in parts of the country.

The order was given a few hours after twin bomb blasts rocked Maiduguri, Borno State on Monday. Thirteen people lost their lives and many others were injured in the incident.

Many state governors will at their meeting on Tuesday(today) with President Muhammadu Buhari demand the refund of billions of naira they spent on Federal Government projects in their respective states during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

A greater chunk of the money went into the rehabilitation of federal roads in the states.

For instance, 11 out of the   36 states of the federation will be demanding the refund of N300.5bn from Buhari.

In all, the allowance each senator receives is nine times more than his annual salary.

National Vice President, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Mr. Billy Harry, yesterday, supported the scrapping of subsidy on petroleum products, saying subsidy has failed to benefit ordinary Nigerians over the years.
