Looters’ trial’ll begin in few weeks – Buhari

The Federal Government is set to begin the trial of persons alleged to have stolen from the national coffers, President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday.

Buhari said the trial would begin “in a matter of weeks.”

The President spoke while addressing members of the National Peace Committee, led by a former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Reps Summon CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, summoned the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to explain the recent policy directing commercial banks to reject foreign currency deposits.

This followed the unanimous adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep. Emmanuel Ekon (Akwa-Ibom, PDP).

Ekon said that although the CBN Act of 2007 confers it with the power to devise a suitable mechanism for the exchange of the naira periodically, Nigerians need to understand the merits of the policy.

CBN faults banks on ATM cash withdrawal limits

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday disagreed with the restructuring some banks have effected in their debit card, otherwise known as Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) services as well as some measures they introduced on foreign cash and e-payment transactions this week.

Some banks had early this week imposed N60,000 per day limit on ATM withdrawals while also limiting foreign currency withdrawal per day to $300.
