JTF uncovers stolen crude oil in shrines, septic tanks

The Joint Task-force codenamed Operation Pulo Shield said it had uncovered the new tactics by oil thieves and illegal oil bunkerers operating in the Niger Delta region.

According to the JTF, they now bury stolen crude oil in traditional grounds, shrines, sitting rooms of a house and in septic tanks to avoid detections by security agencies.

Ebola: 18-month-old infant tested negative

Rivers State Commissioner of Health, Dr Sampson Parker, yesterday, said that the 18 months old child at the Port Harcourt Ebola treatment centre tested negative, adding that a fresh test would be done on the infant before concluding on his Ebola status.

The infant was admitted  recently at the treatment centre after manifesting symptoms of the disease.
Parker who spoke in Port Harcourt also appealed to the international community to assist in the fight against the dreaded Ebola virus in Liberia and Sierraleone, stressing that such move would curtail its spread to other West Africa countries.

Retired soldiers threaten ‘guerilla warfare’ over non-payment of pension increment

RETIRED soldiers numbering over 100 yesterday protested round the streets of Benin City, Edo State over alleged non-payment of the 2010, 53 per cent increase in their pension by the Federal Government, warning that they may resort to guerrilla warfare to press home their demands.

The protest led by the National Secretary of Association of Military Pensioners, Patrick Okpaiyo, regretted that after they fought for the survival and unity of the country, they were neglected by government, adding that if the implementation of the consolidated military salary of the ex-service men was not urgently paid, their action would be worse than that of Boko Haram.

Ebola: FG insists on Sept 22 resumption date

►The Federal  Government said yesterday, that the September 22 resumption date for primary and secondary schools in the country would not be extended because there are no strong reasons for such an extension.

►Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, who stated this while briefing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting insisted that those who have reasons to believe that the schools should not re-open on that date should forward same to the Federal Government.
