Nigerian army admits loss of territories to B’Haram

THE Nigerian Army, for the first time, yesterday, admitted that some of the country’s territories have fallen into the hands of Boko Haram terrorists. It, however, assured that in no distant time, its troops in the North-East would overrun the insurgents and retake the lost areas.

The Army made the admission on a day Governor James Bala Ngilari of Adamawa State announced that Mubi, the commercial nerve centre and second largest town in the state has been reclaimed from the terrorists by local militia assisted by the troops.

Boko Haram invades two towns in NE Nigeria

Scores of Boko Haram fighters on Thursday invaded two towns in Adamawa state after hunters and civilian vigilantes reportedly ousted them from a key town, residents told have said.

►The Islamists raided Hong and Gombi, some 100 kilometres (62.5 miles) from the state capital, Yola, after they were pushed out of the commercial hub of Mubi, which they seized two weeks ago.

Nigeria needs N485tr for infrastructure upgrade —NPC

The Minister of National Planning Commission, NPC, Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, says about N485 trillion is required to deliver quality infrastructure across different sectors of the economy in the next 30 years.

►The Minister stated this yesterday, at the Public Policy Conference, entitled: Developing Africa through Innovative Infrastructure Financing held in Abuja.
►He said the N485 trillion estimates were based on sectoral growth strategies, outcome targets and international benchmarks for infrastructural stock.

EPZ commissioning: IYC warns against bloodshed

Ijaw Youth Council, IYC said it did not want bloodshed between the Ijaw and Itsekiri in Delta State over the Federal Government-owned Export Processing Zone, EPZ, project, now renamed Delta Gas City.

In a statement by IYC spokesman, Mr. Eric Omare, the council called on President Jonathan, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, and other Niger-Delta leaders to, “as a matter of urgency, engage the relevant stakeholders with a view to resolving pending issues to allow the smooth commencement of the project.”
