I don’t know how bullets left my AK-47, dismissed DPO tells court

A former Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Segun Fabunmi, attached to Pen Cinema Division of Lagos State Police Command, Wednesday, told a Lagos High Court that he could not explain how the ammunition allocated to him left his rifle.

►Fabunmi, who had been dismissed, is standing trial for allegedly killing one Ademola Daramola and injuring others during the mass protest on fuel subsidy, organized by Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, of Nigeria, in January 9, 2012.
►The alleged offence was committed at Yaya-Abatan, Agege, during the protest.

Boko Haram steps up attacks in Cameroon

Cameroonian soldiers patrol on November 12, 2014 in Amchide, northern Cameroon, 1 km from Nigeria. The city was raided by Islamists from Nigeria’s Boko Haram, killing eight cameroonian soldiers and leading the population to flee on October 15, 2014, before another six coordinated attacks that killed at least three civilians in the remote north of the country, on November 9, 2014.

Nigerian Islamist extremists Boko Haram are intensifying attacks in neighbouring Cameroon, targeting new villages with increasingly sophisticated weapons, as the army fears more violence in the approaching dry season.

“We’re convinced that the establishment of a ‘caliphate’ (by Boko Haram) is aimed not only at Nigeria but also at Cameroon,” Leopold Nlate Ebale, commander for an elite battalion in the border zone, told AFP.

CBN depreciates Naira by 182 kobo

The declining fortunes of the Naira continued, yesterday, as it suffered another182 kobo depreciation at the foreign exchange auction conducted by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The results of the bi-weekly auction showed that the official exchange rate rose to N158.41 to the dollar at the end of the session, from N156.59 at the last auction on Monday.
