B'Haram Attacks Nigeria's Gombe, Repelled By Military

Nigeria's military Saturday repelled an attack on a northeastern town by Boko Haram Islamic extremists who, as they retreated, warned residents not to participate in the country's elections in March.
Two air force jets joined soldiers in attacking the rebels after they assaulted Gombe in the morning.

The Boko Haram fighters left in a convoy of vehicles carrying dozens of corpses, according to residents.

Polls shift: Group tells Jega to resign

AS the 2015 general elections linger, a civil society group, Move on Nigeria, has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, to resign over allegations that he is being partial and having an affiliation with a political party. The group also said that Jega has failed in the distribution of JEGA-INECthe Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, which is one of the major materials for the election.

Man kills neighbour with scissors

The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba,has detained one Ibrahim Tijani for allegedly killing his neighbour at Okun, Ogombo area of Ajah.

Chat212 gathered that the suspect purportedly used a pair of scissors to stab his neighbour to death after chopping off his hands during a minor misunderstanding which degenerated into a fight.

Yobe bus station attack: Death toll rises to 13 in Yobe suicide attack

Thirteen people have now died as a result of a female suicide bomb attack at a bus station in the northeast Nigerian city of Damaturu, police said on Monday.
 “The death toll from the suicide attack at the Damaturu motor park now stands at 13, with the death of six more victims at the hospital,” Yobe state police spokesman Toyin Gbadegesin told AFP.

The attack happened in the state capital shortly after midday (1100 GMT) on Sunday and was blamed on Boko Haram, who have regularly used women and young girls as human bombs across northern Nigeria.

Nigeria's leader lashes out at ex-president's vote rigging claim

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday dismissed allegations by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo that he was plotting to rig rescheduled presidential elections next month.
 A presidency statement said Obasanjo had accused Jonathan in the southwestern city of Abeokuta of plotting to win the March 28 vote by "hook and crook" and planning to plunge the nation into crisis if he lost.

"For the record, President Jonathan has no such intention and will continue to give the greatest possible support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)... to ensure that the rescheduled elections are successfully conducted," it said.
