Gunmen rob ex-Chief Justice of Nigeria, Uwais

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday visited the official residence of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, and carted away “valuables”, The PUNCH has learnt.

Sources close to the ex-CJN told our correspondent that the robbers visited Uwais official residence in Asokoro, Abuja, between 1am and 2am on Tuesday.

Uwais was the CJN between 1995 and 2006 and was later appointed the chairman of the electoral reform committee set up by the former late President Umar Yar’Adua.

Police Kill 2 Robbers Who Stole Church Offerings In Edo

Officials of the Edo State police command have gunned down two robbers who stole church offerings at Bishops Court of St James’ Cathedral in Igarra, Akoko-Edo local government area of the state.

Daily Independent gathered that the third suspect who is alleged to be the informant to the robbers has been arrested and he is currently in police custody for further interrogation.

The robbers were reportedly shot dead by the police while trying to escape from interrogation.

Let Jega be, Reps warn Jonathan

The House of Representatives, yesterday, warned President Goodluck Jonathan against removing the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, saying his removal could derail the nation’s democracy.

The House has, therefore, resolved to subject anyone involved in moves to remove Jega to judicial prosecution in Nigeria or at the International Criminal Court, ICC.
