Gunmen rob ex-Chief Justice of Nigeria, Uwais

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday visited the official residence of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, and carted away “valuables”, The PUNCH has learnt.
Sources close to the ex-CJN told our correspondent that the robbers visited Uwais official residence in Asokoro, Abuja, between 1am and 2am on Tuesday.

Uwais was the CJN between 1995 and 2006 and was later appointed the chairman of the electoral reform committee set up by the former late President Umar Yar’Adua.

The robbers were said to have beaten up security personnel at the house.

They reportedly climbed the rear fence of the house and went straight to the bedroom of the former CJN.

It was learnt that the hoodlums carried out their operation for about an hour without arousing suspicion of any other member of the household.

They were said to have locked the former CJN in his study room while they ransacked his bedroom.

Those who spoke with our correspondent could not ascertain what was carted away by the gunmen. They merely said the robbers made away with valuables.

The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, was said to have visited the house on Tuesday morning.

But when contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer, Federal Capital Territory Command, Anjuguri Mamzah, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said he was not aware of the incident.

“I am not aware of the incident please,” Mamzah said.
