The midfielder, who has been an instant hit since arriving at the Emirates from Real Madrid in the summer, scored his eighth goal in World Cup qualification on 44 minutes to make it 2-1 to the hosts.
But his special night was ruined shortly before full-time when he was forced off after a tackle, being replaced by Schalke winger Julian Draxler. The former Werder Bremen star immediately went down the tunnel for treatment and is a doubt for Arsenal's game at Norwich on Saturday.
