Spurs and Arsenal eye up January move for Corinthians striker Pato as Brazilian admits Spurs failed with summer bid
Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato has confirmed Tottenham failed in a bid to sign him in the summer.
Tottenham remain keen on Pato ahead of the January window despite the former AC Milan forward's dip in form while Arsenal are also interested.
Pato told Sportv: 'Tottenham had called Corinthians to ask for my transfer. I sat at the table with the club and my agent and I decided I wanted to stay.'
The Brazil international arrived on the European scene as a promising 17-year-old at Milan in 2007, scoring against Napoli on his Serie A debut.
Pato looked to have fulfilled his potential by the 2010/11 season, when he struck 14 times for Milan.
But injury plagued his final months at the Italian giants, and Pato struggled to make the first-team.
The emerging Stephan El Shaarawy and January signing Mario Balotelli were the preferred attacking options and Pato was allowed to return to his homeland earlier this year, joining Corinthians for £12.8million.
Alexandre Pato is an undoubted talent. His time at Milan attests to that and it's a shame his young career has been blighted by injury time and again.
But this mischievous penalty well and truly backfired. Watch the video below to see what happened when the Brazilian got a little too cocky from the spot for Corinthians.
