Education debate - I’m ready for Fayemi at short notice

Chat212 Power FM - Report..

The Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Mr Ayodele Fayose yesterday told the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi that he was ready for debate on developments in the state’s education at short notice.

Fayose, who had described the education policy of Fayemi’s administration as a failure because the state came 34th position in the just released WAEC exams result, said he was ”ready for Fayemi any time, any day.”

According to a statement by Fayose’s spokesman, Mr Idowu Adelusi in Ado Ekiti, the PDP candidate said he was prepared to meet Fayemi, not only on education but on all areas because his administration has allegedly impoverished the people of Ekiti State morally, socially and economically.

According to him, “Teachers are the vehicle driving the education but their is a disconnect between the teachers and Fayemi Administration.

“How can a governor,  who wants to achieve in area of education be at loggerhead with teachers just as the relationship between Fayemi and Ekiti teachers and as well the local government workers is that of cat and mouse.”

Fayose described the promises made by Fayemi to the teachers as an after thought.

Governor Fayemi had challenged Fayose to a debate over the education status of the state since he became governor.

According to Fayemi, the present administration had improved  the level of students’ performances in external examinations and improved the welfare of the teachers contrary to Fayose’s claim.

The governor made this disclosure while reacting  to Fayose’s allegation that  the rating of Ekiti in public examinations has nosedived.

Fayose had at a political forum in Ikere Ekiti on Monday, said the state was ranked 8th in WAEC before he left in 2006, expressing regret that the standard had witnessed a downward trend to as low as 35th among the 36 States of the federation.

Stop heating up Ekiti, Osun politics, PDP tells Tinubu

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday called on former governor of Lagos State, and National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to stop heating up politics in both Ekiti and Osun States, saying the two states were quite different from Lagos State.

The party spoke through its Secretary, Dr Tope Aluko,  in reaction to a statement credited to Tinubu that whoever rigged in both Ekiti and Osun states in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections would be roasted.

The former governor was himself reacting to an earlier statement credited to Vice President Namadi Sambo that Ekiti and Osun states’ elections would be warfare.
