The new President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa has been sworn in.
At the swearing-in ceremony in Abuja, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Aloma Mukhtar, challenged the
Appeal Court President to exercise the highest standard of professionalism in the discharge of her duties.

She said, “It is pertinent at this juncture to stress that the discharge of the obligations of the venerated office must be executed with the utmost sense of fair play, impartiality and dedication to duty. These and nothing else are the solemn responsibilities of a judicial officer.

“The office of the President of the Court of Appeal is very tasking and arduous, by this you are charged to demonstrate purposeful leadership and ensure proper coordination of all the justices and activities of the court.”

The Chief Justice added that there was a need for the Justice Bulkachuwa to shun all forms of political pressures in order to adjudicate without fear or favour.

Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, who is the first female president of the Court of Appeal, pledged to uphold the tenets of the judiciary at all times. Speaking to Chat212, she said, “We are going to do the best we can for Nigeria and the judiciary as well.

“We are at the planning stages and we are going to make sure that everything is OK.”
