Job Summary
The Legal Attorney shall work within the Legal Services Shared Services Centre (SSC) and will be part of a team of lawyers providing day-to-day legal support to the transactions and corporate projects of the Downstream Division.
The incumbent shall work with a team responsible for legal aspects of daily transaction processing of the Downstream Division including but not limited to the preparation and/or review of contracts, preparation of legal opinions, dispute resolution management and retail station lease management. Legal support provided must be practical and geared towards the effective and efficient management of the risks and legal needs of the Division.
In addition, the incumbent shall provide project administration support and handle time and fee schedules, project work plan monitoring, status report preparation, project documentation and filing in addition to handling responsibilities which may be assigned to him from time to time.
The incumbent must ensure legal transactions comply with the Group Legal Services Policies and Procedures and are in line with the overall philosophy, practice and strategy of the Oando Group.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
► Legal support and advisory.
► Execute work/implement best practices for legal services on assigned transactions.
► Process legal transactions; prepare and review legal opinions and agreements as may be requested of users from time to time.
► Attend meetings and negotiate contracts in favour of the Downstream Division.
► Risk and claims management.
► Insurance advisory, placement and processing.
► Monitoring, co-ordination and control of Oando’s Litigation/Arbitration portfolio.
► Support the recovery of trade account receivables.
► Property Acquisition.
► Monitoring and management of the Division’s retail stations lease register.
► Perfection and registration of Titles.
► Review of finance /security & related documentation.
► Write basic letters, files and archives legal documents and case folders.
► Maintain and periodically update the databases maintained by the legal department.
Job Qualifications & Experience
► A good first degree in Law (minimum of second class lower division); B.L.
► Possession of a Master’s degree in Law will be an added advantage.
► Minimum of 5 years post-call experience in commercial legal practice either from a reputable law firm or within the Legal Department of a reputable and structured business environment.
► Ability to perform basic/general legal analysis.
► Strong & effective business communication (verbal and writing skills).
► Ability to plan and execute complex assignments under pressure.
► Demonstrated business acumen and superior judgment.
