PDP, APC shift battle to Appeal Court over defected Reps

Chat212 - Mail News... Report

APC caucus in the House of Representatives says none of their 37 members that defected from the ruling PDP shall vacate their seats nor cease to take part in major decisions in the house as partly ruled in a recent judgment by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The Minority Whip of the House, Samson Osagie, told reporters that Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who delivered the judgement, was merely expressing an opinion over a matter that was not before him.

He said that the Justice’s decision, in effect, was an attempt to meddle with the internal affairs of the house on which he is ignorant.

The matter was not mentioned at plenary on Tuesday and representative Osagie confirmed that there was no judgement before the House of Representatives asking any member of the APC to vacate his or her seat.

He, however, said the defected lawmakers had appealed the judgment.

The court had on Monday asked the 37 lawmakers to resign their positions as members of the National Assembly.

The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining the defecting lawmakers from effecting any leadership change in the lower House.

Justice Ademola told the lawmakers that they were no longer competent to vote or contribute to any proceedings in the House of Representatives.
