The London Ministerial Summit on Boko Haram will kick off today in London, UK, where the security situation in Northern Nigeria in view will be addressed by representatives from Nigeria, Benin, Chad, Cameroon, Niger, UK, US, France, Canada and the EU with a view to continue the coordination necessary to defeat Boko Haram.
The summit is in the margins of the World Summit on Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict which started in London on Tuesday and is also a continuation of the May 17 Nigeria Security Summit in Paris.
According to a statement made available to journalists yesterday by the US embassy in Abuja, US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Sarah Sewall will represent the United States at the summit.
The statement called for a holistic approach to countering terrorism and laid emphasis on human rights.
“Peace and security in Nigeria is one of our highest foreign policy priorities in Africa, and this summit will underscore the need for a comprehensive, regional approach to countering terrorism, while emphasizing civilian security, respect for human rights, and efforts to address the underlying causes of the conflict,” it read.
