The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspect was arrested by detectives attached to Ota Division of the command
with police uniform and some accoutrements.
According to Adejobi, “the suspect, Taiwo Agboola, 35, of Iyana Ago, Idiroko, Ogun State, has been parading himself as a policeman over time and has been placed under surveillance by the police detectives in Ota. He was eventually arrested when a good Nigerian put a call to notify the police of his presence in the area.
“The suspect, who hails from Ile-Ife, Osun State, confirmed that he had been in love with the police job right from his childhood but was discouraged by his late mother, hence his interest in getting police accoutrements for this dirty business of investigating and settling cases for his clients.
“Items recovered from the suspect included a police T-shirt, identity card bearing his name with a corporal rank, handcuffs and tear gas canister.”
“The Commissioner of Police Ogun state CP Ikemefuna Okoye has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran Abeokuta for thorough investigation to detect some facts that will help the police to curb such.
“CP Okoye has developed interest in this matter as he believes that the suspect must have perpetrated many wrongful act with police name thereby denting the precious image of the Nigeria Police.
“The Commissioner of Police then appealed to the general public to always call police officers’ attention to suspicious fake police officers who may engage in strange or unethical behaviors around them”, he said.
