Court sentences man to life imprisonment for rape

►An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesha has sentenced one Obafemi Kolawole to life imprisonment for rape.
►Justice A. B. AbdulKareem convicted Kolawole on one-count charge of rape preferred against him.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, was contrary to Section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. II, Laws of State of Osun, 2003.

Justice AbdulKareem found the convict guilty of rape and unlawful carnal knowledge of a lady without her consent.

The prosecutor, Mrs Rachael Ojimi, had told the court that on September 15, 2007, the convict, at about 7:30p.m., went to the house of the victim and forcefully raped her.

According to the prosecutor, the Medical report obtained from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Teaching Hospital Osogbo, also confirmed that she was raped and impregnated.

Passing the judgement, the judge said that the prosecutor, Mrs Ojimi, a chief state counsel from the Ministry of Justice, proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
