Both United and Chelsea are prepared to bid $100 million for Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Real Madrid is looking less and less secure. Not only has his ex-teammate, Angel Di Maria, insisted that the Portuguese icon is already looking for a new club but now Chelsea have allegedly joined Manchester United as rivals for his signature.
Rumors have suggested Jose Mourinho is looking to reunite with Ronaldo, who he managed at Madrid between 2010 and 2013, and that Roman Abramovich will give his coach $100 million to prize his target away from the Bernabeu.
Manchester United aren’t prepared to throw-in the towel on their own deal for Ronaldo just yet though, despite Chelsea’s emergence. The Red Devils will be able to offer Ronaldo the exact same deal as their southern rivals, but they will be hoping that his allegiance to the Manchester United. Ronaldo played for Man U for six years, winning three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League in just six years.
Both United and Chelsea are prepared to bid $100 million for Ronaldo, and it’s thought that will be enough for one of them to land their man. Louis Van Gaal is also ready to topple the $470,000 a week deal that he has at Madrid too.
Mourinho is feeling confident that the close relationship he developed with his fellow countryman at Madrid will help to seal his move to the English capital though.
However, Ronaldo has previously declared that, if he was to leave Madrid, it would only be for Old Trafford. During an interview a couple of weeks ago the 2013 Ballon d’Or winner stated, “I love Manchester. Everyone knows that – I have said it many time. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”
Ronaldo is believed to have become unsettled at Madrid after the departure of Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford. Di Maria was Madrid’s stand-out player last season, and Ronaldo has become disenchanted by a number of other departures, which has also included Xabi Alonso.
Of course, things have changed drastically at Old Trafford since Ronaldo left in 2009. Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer the manager, and under David Moyes they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 16 years. However Ronaldo would clearly love to be the man responsible for returning United to the summit of the Premier League, and United fans would love to see him do just that too.
