Ondo APC picks holes in state govt’s decision to employ 2,000 teachers

THE All Progressive Congress, APC, in Ondo State and the state government, yesterday, disagreed on the planned employment of 2,000 into the state teaching service six years into the present administration.

►Governor Olusegun Mimiko had, last week, directed the immediate massive recruitment of 2,000 teachers into the state’s teaching service by the Teaching Service Commission.

But the APC in a statement in Akure picked holes in the exercise.

The party’ Publicity Secretary Abayomi Adesanya described the exercise as “deceptive and a mirage to cajole the people ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Adesanya argued that the recruitment exercise did not have a genuine back up and was propaganda by the government.

He claimed the state had not witnessed any meaningful development since the inception of the Mimiko led administration, saying, “what Ondo State people witnessed, since February, 2009, in the scope of employment and empowerment are nepotism, discrimination and partisanship.

“If 2,000 qualified teachers are genuinely recruited, in the highly-publicised recruitment plan of the government, and not the usual chicanery, trickery and media propaganda of the Mimiko-led administration, then, the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko-led administration would have scored a point, truly beneficial to the good people of the state, since inception in February 24th, 2009.

“If it takes the government six-years to embark on recruitment exercise, how many additional years will it take the same government to finally get the teachers into the classrooms to teach our children?

“No wonder, the mixed feelings and cheers that welcomed the recruitment plan from the good people of Ondo State, is therefore, understandable in view of the antecedents of the government.”

“Therefore, it took the people of Ondo State by astonishment, that a government that has abandoned them for almost six uneventful years suddenly announced its intention to recruit 2,000 teachers. Is this August recruitment exercise a bid to shore up the dwindling popularity of the government”?
