FG Finally Unveils New Hundren Naira Note "N100"

However - Contrary to earlier reports, the new N100 centenary banknote was formally presented to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting presided by President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House in Abuja today, Wednesday, 12 November, 2014.
It was reported last week that the new N100 note, which has the inscription of the theme of the centenary celebration: “One Nigeria, Great Promise” as a micro-text, would be unveiled on 5 November, 2014.
Speaking at the occasion, Emefuele stated that the note is to commemorate 100 years amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates in 1914.
He also stressed that it was produced with the most advanced technology in the world, adding that the note retained the picture of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo on the front side.
The Apex bank boss informed that the new note has security features against counterfeiting and with special durability tolerance.
According to Emefuele, the Zuma Rock at the back of the current note has been replaced by Q.R. code and other pictures.

He informed further that with telephone set and an iPad having QR code scanner and the application to be released by the bank, Nigerian will be able to scan and read historical facts about Nigeria.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who wondered how much it will cost to print the notes, noted that the Q.R. code features will be useful for students to catch up with the history of Nigeria.
It was gathered that various programmes have been scheduled to take place before the issuance of the new note to Nigerians.
Among the planned programmes is a partnership programme aimed at banknote equipment manufacturers and other machine suppliers which will hold next Wednesday.
It was gathered from the unveiling that the new notes will be issued into circulation on Friday, 19th December, 2014.
