THE Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday pledged to tackle unemployment and insecurity which had over the years plagued the people of the south east geopolitical zone in the country if elected president next month.
He also said that his administration would stamp out armed robbery as it would focus on education and effective healthcare delivery in the country.
Buhari spoke separately at Aba and Abakaliki, in Abia and Ebonyi States respectively while on his campaign tour of the South East.

Speaking at a rally organized by the state chapter of the APC at the Peoples Club in Abakaliki, Buhari further explained that the APC administration would empower the zone especially Ebonyi State in the area of food production, human capital empowerment and entrepreneurial development and asked his party supporters to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, to enable them vote for their preferred candidates during the elections.
Earlier at Aba, in Abia State, Buhari had promised the commercial city of Abia State, that the commercial city and indeed the entire South East will enjoy constant power supply if elected.
He said that his administration would also tackle ecological problems in the zone, as well as fix the roads and tackle other infrastructure challenges in the zone..
In Ebonyi, the rally which was scheduled for 3pm was delayed till a few minutes after 7pm, when most members had waited for his arrival and left for their homes.
Before his arrival, thousands of the party members in the state continued with their protest against attempts to impose some unpopular candidates as candidates during the forthcoming elections.
At Aba, in Abia State, Buhari also, promised that his administration would also tackle ecological problems affecting the zone.
Speaking at Etche Road Primary School play field, Buhari said Aba in particular needed constant power supply because of the city’s strategic importance to the economy of the South East region.
He praised the ingenuity of the people of the South East, especially the entrepreneurs in Aba, assuring that if voted into office, his administration would provide financial assistance for Small and Medium Scale Enterprise, SME, managers to enable them support and grow their businesses thereby helping to grow the nation’s economy.
The APC presidential hopeful also promised to supporting agriculturists and the mining of untapped mineral resource deposited in the country as a way of depending less on oil as well as reducing unemployment.
“The main concern of the APC is to ensure that there are no idle persons roaming the streets and becoming touts instead of becoming productive citizens.
“We want to encourage the financial institutions to empower the small scale industrialists by giving soft credits. I assure you that in spite of the fall of crude oil prices, the APC will employ qualified, competent, patriotic Nigerians to manage our ministries so that competent and qualified Nigerians will get jobs and opportunity to perform”, Buhari said.
