Oba Erediauwa died about two weeks ago, but the announcement has just been made today.
There have been speculations that Oba of Benin, his Royal Majesty, Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa, has passed on.
The death repot made it known that Oba Erediauwa who has ruled for 36 years died about two weeks ago, but the announcement has not been made public.
The news however broke out today that the 92-year-old royalty passed on today. But Punch in a new report made it that one one of the Oba’s spokesperson said the report is all rumor although he did not particularly specify whether the King is dead or alive.
The death report was said to have intensified when he did not come out to personally receive President Goodluck Jonathan, during his February 4 presidential rally in Benin, the Edo State capital. Saying it was all mere speculations which has been on for over six months, the secretary to the Benin traditional Council, Mr. Frank Irabor said that if any happening like that had occured, an official statement would have been released.
“They have been peddling that rumour for more than a year now, because the Oba has not been coming out.“If there is anything like that, there is usually a statement from the palace or from the Benin Traditional Council.“The fact that he has not been coming out, even when the President came last week, does not mean that there is anything like that.” I don’t bother about rumours. I believe in getting information from the authentic source. For more than six months, they have been carrying the rumour,” he added
It would be recalled that just recently, during President Jonathan’s campaign in Benin, the Oba Monarch made it known that only the ancestors know the next president.
