David Mark Vows To Remain In PDP, Blasts Defectors

Senate president, David Mark has said he will remain a loyal member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) no matter what.

Mark made this known at a special church service to mark his 67th birthday at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy Apo in Abuja, Punch reports.

According to him, those who have dumped the PDP following its defeat at the just concluded presidential election are fair weather friends.

He said: “I have no reason to jump ship. I will not leave the PDP. I will be the last man standing for the PDP. The party gave me the platform to be where I am today.

“I will stay in the PDP to contribute my quota to the rebuilding and restructuring of the party.”

Mark was reacting to the gale of defection the PDP has suffered since President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential elections, to the opposition candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.

He pointed out that the outcome of presidential election in favour of APC is the will of God and majority of Nigerians and the PDP has already accepted their defeat in good faith.

“Those drifting to the APC now are fair weather friends of the PDP. They are seeking new green areas. When the PDP bounces back, they will seek another return to the PDP.

“I believe in PDP manifestos . I will work hard to bring the party back on track. What is important is that we have established democracy in Nigeria,” he added.

Its been  season of mass defection from one political party to another. Politicians have been cross-carpeting, moving to parties which they feel will favour them.

Following PDP’s loss to APC during the presidential election, most of its members, have been dumping the party for the APC.

Yesterday, some leaders of the PDP in Kwara state decamped to the APC ahead of the governorship elections.

In Edo state, Maj.Gen. Charles Arhiavbere left the PDP with over 10,000 of his supporters for the APC on Easter Sunday.

Reacting to the defection that is hitting the party across the country few days after it lost the presidential election , the PDP said it is immoral for its members to be defecting to the main opposition party, the APC.
