The Special Election Team of Zone 6 Command, Calabar of the Nigeria Police has arrested a man with 813 permanent voters’ card.
The suspect, identified as Madueke Sunday, 31, was arrested at Izzi in Ebonyi State. He reportedly concealed the PVCs in a ‘Ghana must go’ bag.
Speaking on the arrest, head of the Special Election Team, Obere Friday, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the arrest took place last Monday, following a call received by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone, Tunde Ogunsakin.
“The team was immediately put into action by the AIG and they moved into Izzi where the suspects were said to have been seen in the wee hours of the morning. On sighting the Police, the suspects took to their heels but were apprehended when they attempted to jump over a fence.
Consequently, one of them, Madueke Sunday, 31, who hails from Izzi, Ebonyi State, was arrested in possession of a ‘Ghana-must-go’ bag containing the PVCs
Contacted on phone, the AIG, said he had ordered a thorough investigation to be carried out, with a view to making more arrests.
Commending the Special Electoral Team for its dogged determination and commitment, he also berated those insisting on carrying out criminal tendencies, despite warnings.
He restated the commitment of the Police to combat every plan against a hitch-free election in the four states under his watch, comprising Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi and Rivers, Ogunsakin also urged members of the electorate to exercise their franchise without fear of oppression or intimidation.
He called on members of the public to avail the zone of information that could lead to the apprehension of trouble makers during tomorrow’s polls.
