Rivers State Protesters Storm INEC Office In Abuja

The protesters from Rivers state stormed the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The activists are demanding the removal of the controversial Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner Gesila Khan.

Hundreds of protesters were mainly the supporters of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and Coalition of Nigerian Political Parties Rivers State chapter.

Activists said that the state REC Gesila Khan was limited and prejudiced in the conduct of the last week presidential poll in the state.

They carried posters with the next inscriptions; remove Rivers REC now, No more rigging in Rivers State, Gesila is corrupt, Jega save us, 13 Political parties demand REC removal, INEC ad-hoc staff thumbprint for PDP in Rivers, We will not allow Gesila to conduct Governorship election.

The Coalition of  Political Parties also defined Gesila as an shame to the commission, who permitted electoral officers to thumb print for a political party under her watch.

They said: “She gave the result sheet to PDP Leaders in the State to write the result“.

The protesters asked the chief of the electoral commission, Attahiru Jega to redeploy the commissioner in the interest of democracy, just as he preserved that the people of Rivers state would fight any effort to repeat the massive fraud that was scored during last Saturday’s presidential poll.

Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers state governor has recently said that he believes that presidential poll held in the state was irreparably compromised, and the results must be cancelled.
