BREAKDOWN: Nigeria’s National Assembly (NASS) Outrageous Allowances In Numbers June
It has been revealed that next week, the National Assembly members will receiving a total sum of N8.64billion as wardrobe allowance. This is different from other allowances they are entitled to which include housing and vehicle allowances. Each of 360 House of Representatives members is to get N17.5Million as wardrobe allowance while each member of the senate (109 senators) is entitled to N21.5million. While the wardrobe allowance covers the their whole tenure as legislators for a period of 4 years, housing allowances are paid yearly.

With the calculations based on the system approved by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, each senator will be paid N4,052,800 as housing allowance but the Senate president and his deputy will be provided accommodation by the Federal Government. Also, each house of representative member will be paid N3,970,425 as housing allowance upon assumption of office but the Speaker’s as well as his deputy’s housing needs are ensured by the government.
Furniture allowance for each senator will take away N6,079,200 from the NASS budget, totaling N650,474,400 (excluding president and deputy president). For the House of Representatives members, the total budget for Furniture allowance will amount to N2,132,118,225; making N5,955,637.50 per legislator.
