27 policemen Missing Says IG of Police... Not Yet Declared Dead

27 policemen Missing Says IG of Police...
Solomon Arase, Inspector-General of Police, IGP, on Tuesday said the 27 policemen who went missing after terrorists attacked Gwoza, Borno State, in August 2014, are yet to be declared dead.

Arase disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen after inaugurating the board of directors of the Nigeria Police Property Development and Construction Company Limited, NIPPDCC.

He said the police would follow its tradition of declaring officers who went missing in battle dead after a certain period of time has passed.

“About our colleagues who are missing in Gwoza, there is a tradition in the police force. When officers are missing in battle, we do not declare them dead or missing until after a period has lapsed,” the Police boss said.

He said the police are still waiting for the period to lapse, and they will formally declare them either dead or missing if they cannot be found after that time.

Thirty-five policemen could not be accounted for after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Gwoza, where a police training school is located, on August 20, 2014.

However, Emmanuel Ojukwu, the police spokesman, on August 26, 2014, told newsmen that eight of them were found, with 27 still missing.
