SHOCKING NEWS! PDP Makes U-Turn On Jega

The Peoples Democratic Party has showered accolades on former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Atahiru Jega, for bringing confidence to Nigeria’s electoral system.
The party has, however, ascribed the success achieved by Jega to the support he got from Goodluck Jonathan, who allowed him free hand to carry out his duties.

“He led us to our first defeat. But to be honest, Jega, to an extent, brought confidence to the system. Nobody is perfect but we owe his success and achievements to Jonathan who allowed him to function without interference,” said Olisa Metuh, the national publicity secretary of the party, in an interview with The Punch on Tuesday, June 30.

But, Metuh refrained from rating Jega’s performance level, saying it would not be appropriate to do so now when the party still had several cases at the Election Petitions Tribunal.

The recent comment by the party runs contrary to its earlier stand that Jega was culpable in rigging the PDP out of the 2015 general elections.

During the announcement of the elections result in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, a chieftain of the PDP, Elder Godsday Orubebe, accused Jega of being tribalistic, selective and partial in dealing with issues of irregularities raised during the  Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Amina Bala Zakari, has been appointed as the new acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the expiration of  Prof. Attahiru Jega’s tenure.
