Afenifere Group Dissatisfied With Buhari's Policy

The Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has raised doubts over President Muhammadu Buhari’s favourable disposition towards implementing the recommendations of the report of the National Conference organised by the ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.
Rueben Fasoranti, the leader of the group, said at a media briefing in Akure, Ondo state, the conference, which the All Progressives Congress opposed, formed the blueprint for the common good of Nigerians.

“The reason we supported Jonathan, of course, was because he agreed to carry out the decisions of the National Conference. The present government is not working towards that and when the time comes, we shall speak again. Unless we do that, Nigeria will not settle. That is, the recommendations of the confab.

“Restructuring and many other things in the recommendations – so much money was spent on them. And it will be a shame; in fact, it will be a disaster if the report of the confab is dumped somewhere.

“I am sure people will continue to talk until something is done. Although, the APC didn’t like it. The party didn’t attend but the recommendations formed the blueprint for future Nigeria,” he said.

Urging the president to constitute his cabinet without further delay, the statesman said: “I think the President should sit down and have a package. He is just picking people here and there. He did not have time to settle down for governance yet and the time is flying.

“Let him constitute his cabinet and start working. As it is now, Buhari is still behaving like a military dictator – just picking on people. He should sit down for work. His cabinet has not met. He is running a one-man show now, but let us give him some time.”

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Yoruba people have lashed out at Obasanjo and Tinubu, saying that the duo are a tragedy to the Yorubas. Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a leader of Afenifere, in a chat with The Punch, said Obasanjo behaves and talks as if Nigeria never existed until he became the president, wondering what the former president has achieved to make him a judge over others.

He said: “Of all the colonial leaders who contributed to the struggle, have you heard Obasanjo say anything positive about them? Have you heard Obasanjo speak well of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello or anyone? Has he ever praised them for anything? These were nationalist leaders. And even when Obasanjo became President, none of his successors or predecessors were good in his eyes. He is the only saint. He is a tragedy to the Yoruba people and this is not a laughing matter. All he does is condemn people but he has nothing to show for his more than eight years in office.“
