An Ikeja senior magistrates court 4, Ogba, Lagos has refused bail to a suspect, Tope Thomas (32), who was charged to court for having sex with a 3-year old girl (names withheld).
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Jimah Isedeghe, alleged in the charge that Thomas had sex with the minor in his house, at 4, Mafo close off Yaya Abatan Street, Ogba, in Ikeja magisterial district on August 28, 2015.
The offence is contrary to and punishable under section 137 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Count two added that the suspect consequently conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace, an offence punishable under section 166(d) of the criminal laws of the state.
When the charge was read to him, Thomas denied the two counts. His lawyer pleaded with the court for his bail on liberal terms.
However, the presiding chief magistrate, Tajudeen A. Elias refused to grant Thomas bail. Instead he ordered that he be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri while the matter was adjourned till November 11, 2015 while awaiting report of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
