Jega Resumes New Role As PLASU Council Chairman

Professor Attahiru Jega, the chairman, governing council, Plateau state University, on Thursday, September 3, resumed work by inspecting some projects and presiding over the council’s meeting in Bokkos, near Jos.
The former Independent National Electoral Chairman (INEC) boss inspected projects, shortly after the inauguration by Governor Simon Lalong. The projects include the N114 million TET Fund Lecture Halls and Offices, the N72 million Entrepreneurship Centre and the N69 million 250-capacity theatre.

Aku Ayok, the university’s acting director of works who took the council members round the projects, said most of the projects were TET Fund’s with some completed while others at near completion.

Prof Doknan Sheni, the PLASU vice chancellor, said the greatest challenge of the university was non-accreditation and funding.

He said there was need for the rapid infrastructural development in the institution and recruitment of the staff to meet up with the accreditation of NUC.

Jega, who expressed gratitude to the Plateau government over the appointment, said the university was founded on very lofty objectives with a very good mission and vision statements.

Prof. Jega’s, appointment as the pro-chancellor and chairman of council of the Plateau State University was approved by the state governor, Simon Lalong.

The governor of Plateau state, approved the appointment as part of his efforts to address the protracted challenges facing the university and to reposition it for better productivity.
